WEG, a worldwide manufacturer of gearboxes, generators, transformers and motor devices, has announced the launch of its latest innovation, the WG50 gearbox. The cutting-edge industrial gearbox is specifically designed to optimise power transmission in a wide range of industrial applications, setting a new standard in performance and reliability.

The WG50 gearbox design incorporates cylindrical gears with helical teeth, ensuring smooth and efficient operation, as well as delivering optimal performance and reliability. Also available with the option of parallel or orthogonal shafts, the WG50 gearboxes are available in ratios ranging from 6.30 to 450 and capacities from 22,000 to 178,000 Newton metres (Nm). Larger sizes will become subsequently available.

With its precision ground tooth flanks, the WG50 gearbox is shown to excel in precision and smooth gear engagement. Additionally, the output shafts, which are crafted from alloy steel and heat-treated, exhibit exceptional strength and resistance to wear. The accurate tolerances maintained in all the gearbox’s seats and shaft ends ensure seamless compatibility and efficient power transmission.

Designed with flexibility and modular construction, the WG50 gearbox can be easily mounted in various work positions, allowing for seamless integration into existing systems. It is tailored to serve a wide range of industries including mining, steel production, fertiliser production, pulp and paper manufacturing and sugar and ethanol production.

With user convenience in mind, the WG50 gearbox facilitates easier maintenance. Its split design at the height of the shaft centres allow for easy access to all components, simplifying maintenance tasks. The gearbox is also equipped with a top inspection cover, which allows for convenient inspection of the gearbox without removing the installed equipment.

Featuring self-aligning roller bearings that are chosen to withstand specified loads, the WG50 gearbox ensures optimal performance and extended lifespan. For efficient lubrication and cooling, the gearbox utilises immersion lubrication for gears and bearings, with the option of an oil pump for pressure lubrication when necessary.

The housing itself serves as an oil reservoir for convenient maintenance. To enhance thermal regulation, the gearbox’s outer surface effectively dissipates heat. Additional cooling options, such as a coil, fan, or external heat exchanger, can be employed if required.
