PetroChina Changqing Oilfield Company (Changqing Oilfield) recently achieved a milestone, marking a cumulative production of over 1 billion tons of oil equivalent. Its operations injected robust impetus to national energy security and coordinated development of regional economy.

Changqing Oilfield is located in the Ordos Basin, which is characterized by "low permeability, low pressure, and low abundance". Thus, it faces some of the most daunting challenges in the world for exploration and production. At Changqing Oilfield, technological innovation is considered as the primary driving force for boosting production. By deepening understanding of reservoir geology, overcoming technical bottlenecks, sharpening engineering tools, as well as developing processes and equipment, it has innovated five hydrocarbon accumulation theories and four technical solution systems. Such efforts tackled the world-class challenge of developing low-permeability reservoirs, and transformed Changqing Oilfield, which was previously considered uneconomical for exploitation, into China's highest-yielding large-scale oil and gas field. As of now, it has maintained an annual output of over 50 million tons for eleven consecutive years, contributing approximately one-sixth to the country's total oil and gas production.
