To support those who are at the front line to manage the healthcare emergency in the country, and based on its experience in healthcare projects worldwide, Eni puts in place a number of healthcare and social activities that will be immediately operational.
Eni is the only partner of Fondazione Policlinico Universitario Agostino Gemelli IRCCS to set up the COVID 2 Hospital in Rome (former private Ospedale Columbus), that will be exclusively devoted to treating patients suffering from coronavirus. The Hospital will have 130 beds, including 50 intensive care beds, as well as advanced technologies in the diagnosis of the disease: X-ray, CT scan and transthoracic ultrasound.
The Hospital will be operational starting from March 31st. As part of the same project, an Emergency Room for patients suffering from coronavirus will be set up inside the Gemelli Polyclinic.

Moreover, in Milan, together with Ospedale IRCCS Luigi Sacco, the company will set up a new Emergency Room devoted to infectious diseases.
In Pavia, together with Ospedale San Matteo, Eni takes part to the set-up of a high-level isolation unit inside the infectious diseases department.

Together with IRCCS Policlinico di San Donato, Eni will ensure the provision of medical equipment such as monitors for Resuscitation units and personal protection equipment.
Eni is also funding public information campaigns. A campaign has been planned with the Italian Federation of General Practitioners, and it is focused on the role of the family doctor as the first contact citizens have to refer to about COVID-19. Another campaign is in the process of being created: it aims to inform elderly people about the services they can access for daily life as they are not able to leave their home.

Finally, the company is in the process of finalizing its partnerships with CNR Institute for Complex Systems and with Istituto Superiore di Sanità to use the calculation and modeling capability of its HPC5 supercomputing system, among the most powerful in the world, for medical research related to infectious diseases.
In addition to these projects, Eni is currently studying and discussing further initiatives in some areas of the country.
The economic commitment of this number of interventions is approximately 30 million euros.
