Repsol was recognized as “Energy Company of the Year” by specialized news agency Platts at its Global Energy Awards ceremony in New York. Repsol was chosen from more than 200 nominees from 25 countries.

The judging panel, made up of energy experts, valued the company’s performance and ability to add value in a context marked by a significant drop in crude oil prices, as well as the transformative growth operation carried out with the acquisition of Talisman. The integration of the Canadian company allowed Repsol to diversify its portfolio of assets and become one of the largest publicly-traded oil companies in the world.

The prestigious international news agency rewarded the successful recovery of value and the immediate monetization of its YPF unit, expropriated by Argentina. Repsol obtained 6.3 billion dollars which it subsequently invested in improving its global portfolio with the acquisition of Talisman.

The CEO of Repsol, Josu Jon Imaz, who received the award on behalf of the company said: “In this transformational year for Repsol, we have made the most of the strength we worked to gain in the last few years to lay the foundations for the coming decade. This award tells us that we are headed in the right direction and motivates us to continue working hard to achieve our goals.”

Platts President, Imogen Dillon Hatcher, stated that Repsol is a "brave, swift company that is demonstrating its strategic sense and its capacity to resist." Also, Platts said that since 1999, no company had won three awards in the same year.

This is the second consecutive year that Repsol has been named “Energy Company of the Year” by one of the most prestigious international publications, after being awarded the same title in 2014 by Petroleum Economist.

Repsol was also awarded the Downstream Industry Leadership Award by Platts, for its industrial asset quality and operational excellence. The Executive Managing Director of Downstream, María Victoria Zingoni, won the Rising Star of the Year Award for her successful career trajectory and leadership within the company.

Regarding the recognition of Repsol’s Downstream area, Platts considered the strength of Repsol’s integrated model, its increased efficiency, the reduction of emissions, and the management of its refining system, which is unique in Europe and allows the company’s five Spanish refineries to operate as a single unit. The investments made by Repsol in its refining system have allowed it to achieve record refining margins and lead the sector in Europe.

María Victoria Zingoni, the Executive Managing Director of Downstream was recognized for her career trajectory, leadership, and her key role in two of the most important milestones for Repsol in recent years: the recovery of value from YPF and the integration of Talisman.
