TotalEnergies has reached an agreement regarding the acquisition of three natural gas-fired power plants in Texas from TexGen Power. The company, which intends to expand its presence in the United States, will pay US$635m for the assets.

Together, the facilities feature a total capacity of 1.5GW, which will be used to offset the intermittency of renewable power production. It has become common for TotalEnergies to use gas plants to compensate the sporadic generation of its wind and solar farms.

In Texas, TotalEnergies has 2GW of installed renewable capacity, 2GW currently under construction and over 3GW in development.
