Poland's GAZ-SYSTEM, natural gas transmission system operator, has confirmed that the Regional Director for Environmental Protection in Gdańsk has made a decision regarding the environmental conditions of the floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) terminal project at the Port of Gdańsk.

The decision allows GAZ-SYSTEM to move forward with the project and to proceed with the development's next steps.

The Gdańsk FSRU, Poland's first of its kind, is qualified as a "project of community interest" and is partially supported by funds provided the European Commission.

The FSRU, which will be built by Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, is planned to regasify 6.1 billion cubic metres of gas per year. The construction of its associated onshore gas pipelines should start late 2024, with the complete project coming online by 2027.
