Petróleos Mexicanos (PEMEX) reports that today, at approximately 4:45 a.m., there was a meteorological phenomenon caused by a thunderstorm at the Madero Refinery in Tamaulipas. As a result, an emergency alert was made by operating personnel of the wastewater treatment plant, who spotted an empty pressure truck (UPV) on fire, near oil separators SA-1 and SA-2, where the fire spread and set the pit on fire.
 
Specialist crews immediately activated the emergency protocols and, with the support of two firefighting trucks and the water network, they contained the fire and then cooled the separator using foam injection. Commissioning activities are underway and the material damage to the facilities is still being assessed.
 
Regrettably, at 06:30 hours the discovery of a deceased worker from the contractor Amarelo Power, was reported on site, and additionally one person from the company GMG was reported missing.
 
PEMEX deeply regrets the death of the worker and sends its condolences to his family and friends. It is also cooperating with the authorities involved in the search for the person whose whereabouts are unknown at this time.
