Equinor and its partners have constructed a new pump at the Vigdis oil field in Block 34/7, located in the Norwegian North Sea, to increase production by approximately 16m barrels.

Petoro, Vår Energi, Idemitsu, Wintershall Dea and Equinor have agreed to invest nearly 1.4bn Norwegian kroner (US$157m) in the Vigdis Boosting project. The project includes a multi-phase booster station to increase the production of existing oil wells. The booster also aims to increase the oil recovery rate (IOR) of the field.

The station, which is connected to the existing pipeline between Vigdis and Snorre A, is designed to help bring the well stream from the subsea field up to the platform. Furthermore, the project is believed to reduce wellhead pressure, which would lead to higher oil recovery from the wells.

The Vigdis field, which first came online in 1997, has been developed with subsea installations connected directly to the Snorre A platform, which is located 7km away for processing.
