Wintershall Dea and partners’ Nova oil field, previously known as Skarfjell, in the Norwegian North Sea has been brought online and production has started. Nova has been developed as a subsea tie back to Neptune Energy’s Gjøa platform.

Nova, whose required investment is calculated at US$1.02bn, is operated by Wintershall Dea with a 45% stake, the company’s third production field in Norway. Sval Energy (45%) and Pandion Energy Norge (10%) are also involved in the project.

The field, in a water depth of 370m, is estimated to hold recoverable reserves of 90 million barrels of oil equivalent (boe).

Nova was discovered in 2012 and its plan for development and operation (PDO) was sent to authorities in 2018.
