TotalEnergies has reported an oil discovery at the 4-SEP-9D-RJS well, also known as Pedúnculo, drilled by Ocyan’s ODN-I drillship. The well is located at the Sépia oil field, 250km off the coast of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Drilling works were carried out at a water depth of approximately 2,200 metres.

Even though exact numbers haven’t yet been disclosed, as measuring of the reservoir is still in progress, TotalEnergies has stated that the net thickness of Pedúnculo’s oil column is one of the largest to date in Brazil.

The Sépia Co-participated Area is operated by Petrobras with a share of 51.9%, while TotalEnergies owns a net interest of 19.2%. QatarEnergy (14.4%) and Petronas (14.4%) are also partners in the project.

The Sépia field currently produces 170,000 barrels of oil per day.
