HOUSTON -- The American Red Cross has received a mission critical donation of $750,000 from Phillips 66 to help support Hurricane Laura disaster relief activities as a record-breaking Atlantic hurricane season moves into peak activity months.

On August 27, Hurricane Laura, one of most powerful storms to ever hit the U.S., left life-altering devastation in her wake, especially in Louisiana and parts of east Texas. The Red Cross is responding with nearly 1,000 trained disaster workers to help those impacted by this deadly storm begin to pick up the pieces.

“We are incredibly honored to receive this generous donation from Phillips 66,” said Henry Van de Putte, regional chief executive, American Red Cross of the Texas Gulf Coast. “Their continued dedication to the Red Cross mission allows us to offer much-needed food, shelter and comfort to those who are reeling from the impact of Hurricane Laura during a pandemic.”

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to all those affected by the disaster, including our many employees, friends and neighbors across southwest Louisiana and southeast Texas,” said Greg Garland, chairman and CEO, Phillips 66.  “The impact from Hurricane Laura reaffirms the importance of Phillips 66's continued support for the American Red Cross.  We believe this gift will enable the organization to use its broad and specialized resource network to support recovery efforts and help those most in need."

During the month of August, Phillips 66 committed a total of $1 million in support of disaster relief to areas where they live and work to help strengthen and build more resilient communities. When wildfires raged in California and Hurricane Hanna wreaked havoc in South Texas, Phillips 66 answered the call and generously donated $200,000 to help support affected communities in California and $50,000 to help support relief efforts for Hurricane Hanna.
