On October 3rd in Astana, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, met with Dai Houliang, Chairman of CNPC, who attended the XV KAZENERGY Eurasian Forum upon invitation. The two sides held cordial and friendly talks on promoting and expanding bilateral energy cooperation.

President Tokayev said that CNPC is Kazakhstan's strategic partner in the field of energy. Kazakhstan-China oil and gas cooperation has played a very important role in deepening the profound friendship and strong mutual trust, and promoting all-round cooperation between Kazakhstan and China, as well as in the stable socioeconomic development of Kazakhstan. Kazakhstan attaches great importance to cooperation with CNPC. It will strengthen dialogue, exchanges and cooperation, and will continue to provide support and policy guarantees for the development of CNPC's business in Kazakhstan, adhering to the principle of mutual benefits and win-win results. Deepening Kazakhstan-China energy cooperation is in the interests of both sides. It is hoped that Kazakhstan and China will work closely together to further deepen pragmatic cooperation in key projects such as petroleum exploration and production (E&P) and clean energy development, taking bilateral cooperation to new heights by creating new highlights and tapping new frontiers, to jointly promote industrial prosperity and share the fruits of development.

Mr. Dai said that the successful meeting between the two heads of state during the China-Central Asia Summit has clarified the direction for further expanding all-round mutually beneficial cooperation between China and Kazakhstan, and jointly building another “Golden 30 Years” of bilateral relations. CNPC will thoroughly implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, step up E&P efforts, ensure stable oil and gas supply, and make important contributions to the socioeconomic development of both nations. The year 2023 marks the 10th anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) first proposed in Kazakhstan. Looking forward to the new journey, CNPC is willing to cooperate sincerely with its Kazakh partners to jointly achieve new breakthroughs in E&P, new energies and other fields, constantly enhance cooperation, and make new and greater contributions to the construction of a New Kazakhstan and the BRI. It is hoped that the Kazakh side will continue to give CNPC strong support to promote the sustainable development of China-Kazakhstan oil and gas cooperation.
