SLB has introduced ExaCT, an electrically controlled downhole system for coiled tubing interventions. Launched on 24 August, the platform replaces pressure-dependent hydraulic actuation with electrical power, communication and telemetry to give intervention teams continuous visibility into tool operation.

The system combines downhole measurements with electrical control so operators can activate tools and verify their response during a job. SLB says this supports work in extended-reach and multilateral wells, where accurately accessing different reservoir sections can be demanding.

ExaCT can combine logging, stimulation, isolation and shifting services within one run. Real-time monitoring allows teams to adjust the intervention as conditions change, potentially reducing repeat runs and supporting greater automation of well intervention workflows.

In one reported six-lateral well operation, SLB says the system reduced intervention time by approximately 175 hours. Access to each lateral took about 12 minutes, compared with six to eight hours using conventional hydraulic methods. The operation stimulated more than 21,000 feet of reservoir contact and reduced fluid consumption by over 3,000 barrels. These are results from a particular deployment, rather than universal performance guarantees.
