SLB has launched two artificial lift technologies for US land operations: Harbison-Fischer Deka diamond technology for rod pump barrels and the Synthetix hydraulic gas lift system. The products address equipment wear and the need to adjust production systems as well conditions change.

Deka uses a proprietary diamond-based barrel coating intended to improve durability in abrasive and corrosive environments. The focus is on limiting wear between the barrel and plunger, extending equipment life and reducing replacement interventions.

Synthetix tackles a different production challenge. Hydraulically actuated downhole valves allow operators to change gas injection settings from the surface without a slickline intervention or workover. The system also enables switching between annular and tubing flow configurations.

SLB reports production efficiency improvements of 10% to 20% in field deployments of Synthetix, including mature and low-pressure wells. Those reported outcomes are specific to the deployments described. Its hydraulic architecture provides adjustability without the downhole electrical infrastructure used by electrically controlled gas lift systems.

Announced on 25 August, the launches offer complementary approaches to mature-well optimisation: stronger materials for rod pumping and greater operational flexibility for gas lift.
